African Animals

Recently the 4th grade students have learned about the following color schemes:

  • Analogous
  • Complementary
  • Warm/Cool
  • Monochromatic

This year's all school writing prompt was "If I Lived In..." and the 4th graders were assigned Africa.  In art, they chose one African animal to draw realistically.  We discussed how cropping the animal will allow us to draw it out bigger.  Each student then chose a color scheme to apply to their drawing.

One Point Perspective Cities

4th graders learned about one point perspective and observed examples from paintings and photographs.  We began by creating a vanishing point on our paper.  Then the students created flat shapes to begin their buildings.  The buildings were then drawn toward the vanishing point, which changed them from two-dimensional to three-dimensional.  Many creative elements were added to their buildings, city, and landscape.  They finished their work with colored pencils.
